Unit 1: Unicorn Gundam
The original · White / Red Psycho Frame · Gundam UC (2010–2014)
The original and most iconic. The white Unicorn's defining visual identity is purity and contrast — white armor in Unicorn Mode, explosive red Psycho Frame in Destroy Mode. The contrast is intentional: in Unicorn Mode, it's anonymous; in Destroy Mode, it's impossible to ignore.
Bandai's Psycho Frame resin has a slight orange-red tint that maximally diffuses red LED illumination. Under red LED, it glows a vivid crimson. The breathing mode in red faithfully replicates the pulsing Psycho Frame from the animation.
Unit 2: Banshee Norn
The dark mirror · Black / Gold · Gundam UC (2010–2014)
The Banshee's visual identity is inversion: where the Unicorn is white with red Psycho Frame, the Banshee is black with gold. The "Norn" designation is applied after its Armed Armor upgrades (Armed Armor DE shield cannon + Armed Armor BS backpack system).
The black armor means LED color considerations differ — the Banshee Norn Set is calibrated for higher LED intensity through the dark panels. Gold/amber reads exceptionally well against black armor, giving the Banshee a smoldering, aggressive appearance.
Unit 3: Phenex
The transcendent · Gold with wing thrusters · Gundam NT (2018)
The most mysterious RX-0 unit. Appearing in Gundam NT (Narrative), the Phenex seems to have achieved a state of permanent Psycho Frame resonance — almost always depicted with NT-D active and wing-type thruster units deployed. It acts with apparent autonomy and is associated with the mythological phoenix (rebirth, transcendence).
The Phenex Set is optimized for the full extended deployment configuration — the standard and most visually striking display pose. Amber/gold LEDs read most vividly against the golden armor panels.
Perfectibility
Maximum coverage · UC MSV design · Expanded Psycho Frame
From the UC MSV supplement materials, the Perfectibility represents a "complete" version of the Unicorn concept: enhanced Psycho Frame coverage across the entire body, additional armor sections, the Beam Magnum Hyper Bazooka, and the distinctive Claw Cannon system from the forearms.
The expanded Psycho Frame coverage means the illuminated display is proportionally larger and more pervasive than the standard Unicorn — more of the kit visibly glows. The optional Claw Cannon LED add-on provides complete illumination of the extended arm weapons.
Final Battle Version
Awakened state · Green Psycho Frame · Gundam UC Episode 7 climax
Not a separate unit — the Unicorn Gundam Unit 1 in the configuration achieved during the climactic battle of Gundam UC Episode 7. At this point, the Psycho Frame shifted to green — the "awakened" state that transcends the original NT-D design parameters. The green Psycho Frame is the Unicorn's most narratively significant visual moment.
Which Variant Should You Build?
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are all PG Unicorn variants compatible with the same LED kit?
No. Each variant requires its own KOSMOS Phantom Series set, calibrated for that unit's specific Psycho Frame color and armor configuration. Make sure you order the correct set for your kit.
Q: Can I use the Phantom Series to display multiple color configurations?
Yes. Since the Phantom Series is full RGB, you can switch between configurations using the wireless remote. The Unicorn Set, for example, can display red (standard NT-D), green (awakened), or any other color.
Q: Is the Banshee Norn the same base kit as the standard Unicorn?
The Banshee Norn uses the same base frame engineering as the standard Unicorn, with different color injections, the Norn horn configuration, and the Armed Armor units added. The transformation mechanism is the same.
Q: Is the Phenex permanently in Destroy Mode in the anime?
Almost always, yes. The Phenex is depicted with its NT-D in a persistent active state throughout Gundam NT. Building and displaying the Phenex in the full thruster-deployed configuration is the standard and most visually striking approach.
Q: Does Bandai make PG versions of all five variants?
Yes. Bandai has released PG 1/60 kits for the standard Unicorn, Banshee Norn, Phenex, Perfectibility, and Final Battle Version. All are 1/60 scale and compatible with the KOSMOS Phantom Series LED system.
